Abstract

In spite of the many pages written about the work of Rosalia de Castro (1837-1885), there is no clear consensus on the interpretative consideration that its oeuvre deserves within the history of literature. In this paper I propose a brief tour along several historiographic volumes trying to clarify the various interpretations that have come to us, the significant inconsistencies we could find in them and the alleged inadequacy. of some of them. Having done so, I suggest a new thesis: the consideration of Rosalia de Castro as a poet near to the literary Symbolism of French descent. Firstly, I set out the principles of Literary Symbolism, its main authors and the reception that this movement had in the context of the Spanish state of that time. Secondly, I review the literary features of Rosalia's work that mach those of European Symbolism
