Abstract

For several decades rural areas in our country have undergone a significant loss of population that is leading to local governments’ incapacity to offer public services to their citizens. This fact, together with the lack of work opportunities in these zones, generates migratory movements to other more populated territories, and further accelerates the demographic drain. This article aims to highlight some of the budgetary and fiscal measures that can be adopted by local authorities to prevent depopulation in rural areas
