Abstract
This report presents the analysis of the magnetic properties of core CI12-PC3, recovered from the Galician Interior Basin (CIG). We analyzed the concentration, composition and grain size of the magnetomineralogical assemblage of the sediment. These parameters are controlled by the transport mode, sedimentation and postsedimentary evolution. These processes are mostly controlled by the climate. The main goal of this work was the environmagnetic characterization of the CIG sediments to ultimately unravel the paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic evolution over the last 70 ka. The high sensitivity of magnetic techniques to detect tiny changes in concentration, mineralogy and grain size has allowed us to identify up to seven IRD layers and correlate the uppermost six layers to Heinrich events. The arrival of Icebergs during these periods to Iberia, located far from the main core of the Ruddiman belt where these deposits are generally found, has been proved using environmental magnetic techniques.
