Resumo

This work was carried out during 2005 in Grado, an inner valley of Asturias (north Spain), withthe aim of study the effect of sowing density of field bean and triticale on the agronomiccharacteristics of their mixtures. The production of dry matter (DM) per hectare across the different mixtures increased as seedpercentage of field bean in the mixture increased and that of triticale decreased. The highestproductions were obtained with field bean sown alone (8.64 t DM/ha) while the lowest wereachieved with triticale sown alone (6.20 t DM/ha). The contents in crude protein anddigestibility showed the same pattern as that of production. On the contrary, importantparameters for silage planning of harvested forage such as DM and soluble carbohydratescontents, showed higher values as the seed percentage in the mixture increased, ranging from39.4 to 21.9% for DM and from 31.34 to 17.75% for soluble casbohydrates. In short, it is suggested to modify the actually recommended sowing dose and it is proposed adose of 37 field bean seeds/m² and 70 triticale seeds/m². Nevertheless, later tests would benecessary to check the optimal doses for other sowing dates
