Abstract

It is undeniable that there have been important changes in the fi eld ofL2 teaching and learning in the last few years. In particular, the quest for the perfect teaching method, supposedly capable of guaranteeing successful L2 learning, is no longer the focus of interest, as such focus has shifted to the learning process itself, that is to say, to how to learn, what to learn and, of course, who learns. This change of perspective implies the defence of a more autonomous learning process which promotes a significant change in the responsibilities of both teachers and students, since the main role is now reserved for the latter, who need to learn how to learn, while the former become mere learning advisers or facilitators of the learning process. As aresult, individual learning factors attain great importance, with a major role of both learning strategies and learning styles.
