Abstract

Introduction. The transition from Bachelor in Physiotherapy to Degree in Physiotherapy, apart from other modifications, involved the introduction of the End of Degree Project (EDP). Given the particularity of this subject within the study plan, we think it relevant to know what are the demands in terms of teacher’s dedication considering its possible impact on academic role, because the University of Vigo determined a value in hours according to each teachers’ planning. The objective of this study was to show and analyse the dedication of both authors in tutor guiding EDP within the Degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Vigo during the lustrum since it was established (2010-11 to 2014-15). Method. Retrospective observational study. Assessment of the time devoted to EDP tutor guidance. Results. 31 EDPs had been tutored. The average time spend in tutor guidance tasks by student along the 5 years included in this study was around 15 hours, range between 12 hours in the academic year 2011-12 and 17 hours in the academic year 2014-2015. Conclusion. We think our data, similar to other studies, could confirm a clear discrepancy between the tutor guidance requirements to the teacher and the recognition of the work realised by universities for such role. The different Spanish universities should take into account this circumstance in order of encouraging and promoting this role among university teachers.
