Doctor by the Universidade de Vigo with the thesis Nuevos metodos de sintesis de convertidores cc-cc conmutados en paralelo de alto rendimiento 1994. Supervised by Dr. Carlos Martínez-Peñalver Freire.

Alfonso Lago was born in Lalín, Spain, in 1962. He received the M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vigo, Spain in 1994. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Vigo, Spain, since 1995. From June 1994 to March 1995 and from November 1997 to October 2001 he was Secretary of the Department of Electronic Technology of the University of Vigo. From March 1995 to July 1997, he was Assistant to the Vice-Rector of Academic Planning of the University of Vigo and from October 2001 to March 2003 and from March 2009 to March 2012, Director of the Department of Electronic Technology of the University of Vigo. He has been Director of the Faculty Area of the University of Vigo from June 2018 to November 2018, Director of the Undergraduate Studies Area of the University of Vigo from November 2018 to June 2022, Vice-Rector of Faculty, Teaching and Degrees from June 2022 to May 2023 and he is currently Vice-Rector of Degrees and Teaching Innovation. Alfonso Lago Ferreiro participated in the organisation of several national and international conferences, being general coordinator of SAAEI 2012 held in Guimaraes (Portugal) and TAEE 2012 (Congress of Technologies Applied to Electronics Education) held in Vigo. He also participates as a reviewer in several international journals and conferences. He has been a member of the Institutional Board of the Galicia 2023 project during the year 2022. He is currently a member of the Panel of Experts for the accreditation of official university bachelor’s and master’s degrees of the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and a member of the Clinical Teaching Coordination Council of Galicia. Alfonso Lago Ferreiro is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). From March 2012 to December 2019, he was a member of the IEEE Spanish Section Board of Directors where he held the position of Chapter Coordinator (2012-2015), Secretary (2106-2017), Vice-President (2018-2019) and Advisor of the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Vigo until 2022. His main topics of interest are switching mode power supplies, control applied to power converters and educational innovation: serious games and content digitization
