Resumo

The agronomic performance of a given grapevine cultivar might be altered by interannual climate variability and agricultural management, which may modify wine typicity. This study aims to determine the effects of irrigation on the agronomic (yield, vigor) and enology (must composition, wine sensory profile) response of the Albariño cultivar under the soil and climate conditions of Ribeiro (Galicia, Spain) over three years. Irrigation increased pruning weight and yield. Must total soluble solids tended to decrease and total acidity to increase with irrigation. However, wines were similar between treatments, although irrigation increased the concentration of acetates while reduced that of terpenes. Tasting showed that treatment exerted a significant effect on wine aroma profiles. In conclusion, irrigation is considered a non–viable practice under the conditions of the current study.
